Updates

I know I haven't updated this in too long. I am so sorry. Life has been busy for us the last few weeks though. We are settling in with Baby Isis. She is growing so quickly! She gained a pound in the first week and a half we had her. We took her in last Thursday for her first set of shots. She was up to 4.2 pounds and healthy. She took her first shot like the little trooper that she is. We love the vet we found thanks to a recommendation from our friend Casey. We were going to take her to PetSmart's clinic but then the morning of her appointment I started reading a bunch of bad reviews on the company, Banfield. Then I decided you know I would never take one of our kids to a clinic that has bad reviews, why would I take our puppy. I am so glad that we decided with the office we are now using. They are the best!

Last Wednesday, Hayden had his first T-Ball practice. He wasn't so sure about it. He seemd to be afraid of the ball. Tonight at practice though he was doing much better. We practice a little this afternoon as well.

Last Saturday, they had their first game. The games are an hour long and all the kids get to hit once per inning. There is supposed to be 3 innings but we only got two into our hour. It was a lot of fun watching the little ones play. Hayden did really good. His first at bat he hit the ball with the coach pitching it. Which is really good since at our first practice we didn't get to practice hitting at all with the coach pitching. His second at bat he hit it from the T.

Phedora is upset that we didn't sign her up too. I never knew she wanted to play though. But I also never asked her if she wanted to. Her and I have played a little here though and she has quite the little arm on her. She will definitely be playing next time around.

Saturday after the game we had a little BBQ here with Tom and Peg, Jenn and Danny and the girls and Ryan. It was a great time. I absolutely love have people over.

On Sunday evening we over to our neighbors across the street for a BBQ. Dan made yummy hamburgers and before we knew it it was was midnight. The kids were all real troopers and were able to stay up that late. We were all shocked. They had a great time playing with Ayla and her friend that was over. While we were there Isis was investigating their cat. That turned out to be a terrible thing to allow her to do. We figured it would be OK and if the cat swiped at her she would learn her lesson and leave her alone. Well we all learned our lesson when the cat took a swipe across the eye. It looked like there was something in her eye but she wouldn't let us get it out. So we just left it to work itself out. Monday morning she wasn't opening her eye all the way. By Tuesday morning it wasn't getting any better. So I called up the vet and got her in Tuesday afternoon to have it checked out. They put some drops in her eye and looked at it under the black light. Turns out the cat got her good. The Dr compared the scratch on her eye to the Grand Canyon and the thing that we saw on Sunday night that we thought would work itself out was actually probably the scratch itself. It was in the same place as the scratch was. Poor Isis now has to have an antibiotic cream put in her eye twice a day for the next week. Because she is so young they didn't want to give her oral pain meds so we have to give her pain meds once a day also in her eye. Apparently when their eye gets scratched its contracts naturally. the pain med will basically dilate her eye to keep the scratch open so the germs don't get in. We gave her her first dose of meds last night and she wasn't happy at all. This morning she wasn't too happy either but this afternoon she was taking it better. This evening she was calm and just let me put it in. It must be working and she must realize that its helping the pain to go away.

This afternoon we headed to what turned out to be Hayden's old preschools end of the year picnic. The kids had a great time playing with their old friends and I had a great time catching up with some of the moms and dads. Isis of course was center of attention and loved it. I'm glad we decided to head over to meet a friend at the park. Though it would have been nice to know that everyone was going to be there. But it was a nice surprise. Phedora got to meet her teacher for next year and Hayden got to see his old teacher. So that was an added bonus for them.

Tonight we had our second T-Ball practice. Hayden did really good. He is getting much better at throwing the ball as well as batting. He hit both of the balls pitched to him tonight. I couldn't have been more proud of him. I cant wait for the game on Saturday!

Tomorrow night we have our Kindergarten orientation. I cant believe that they are doing it so early! But I also couldn't believe how early registration was either. We are all three looking forward to it.

Dan is in North Dakota again this week. He flew out Tuesday and if all goes according to plan he will be home just in time for the game on Saturday. We are looking forward to having him home for a few weeks. Its been rough having him travelling so much since we got back up here. But that's the job and I am so thankful that he has the job.

Pics will be up soon :)

Isis

Isis was born on March 11, 2009, making her 9 weeks old on Wednesday. She is a spunky little girl and already has captured all of our hearts. Including Dan's! She's already starting to respond to her name after just a few hours of hearing it. She has had a few little accidents in the house but otherwise doing really good going potty and poo-poo outside. We were going to let her sleep with us last night even though she pottied on the bed twice before we even got into bed. But little Isis just wanted to play and wouldn't calm down, so she ended up sleeping in the kennel last night. Thank You Mom for loaning us that. She only whimpered a little bit and then settled down with her blankie for the night. Dan was up at 4 this morning and Isis woke up too. I should have taken her out as soon as she woke up but I was just so tired. She pottied in her kennel but also went outside too. We have been up for 2 hours now and Isis is curled up on the couch sleeping. She was full of energy and apparently starving when she woke up. She ate a half a dish of food in no time at all. She probably would have ate it all if I had let her. But I don't want to get her used to eating at 4 am!

Dan left this morning for North Dakota. He will be gone until sometime between the 20th and 22nd. We are happy he will be home for Hayden's first T-ball game though. Hayden is set to start practices on Wednesday. We will have a busy day of shopping today. We need to get Hayden a glove and Isis needs a lot of things.

Our new puppy Isis.
Finally home it was a long drive from Tacoma

Hanging out before bed.
A goofy shot of them.
Playing at 4 am. Its just like having a newborn again.
However, she sleeps through most of the night.
She loves chasing her little tail.
I love how it curls ups over her bum.
Hayden is finally up to give mommy a little break.
He slept in till 8!
Loving his puppy.
Phedora got up at 8:30 and took over.
She didn't want her picture taken so I had to trick this one out of her.
Isis would have stayed outside all morning if I would have let her.
It was much too cold for me though.
She loves to attack the weeds that are twice her size.
All tuckered out after her first outing to PetSmart.
She weighs 3.3 pounds.

Riding the mini bike

Hayden finally got to get on and ride the mini bike yesterday. He was a little bit afraid of it but if he keeps at it he should be pretty comfortable by the end of summer. He did really good and you could tell that grandpa was enjoying teaching him.

Mother's Day

We were up bright and early to begin our Mother's Day festivities. We caught an early boat out of Seattle to go make breakfast for Peg. They came over on Friday afternoon and picked up the kids for the weekend so we could have a night out. A much needed night out. Dan made egg's Benedict with bacon and roasted potatoes. He makes the best Benedict sauce. We spent the morning hanging out and had a great time.

For lunch we headed over to my mom's to make her lunch. Olivia and John came over and we all had a great time as well. Dan made his yummy yummy take on a Monte Cristo. They were a big hit. But everything is always a hit when Dan is in the kitchen.

At about 3:30 we headed out for our long drive home. While we were on the ferry I picked up a little nickel and started looking through. I have been obsessing over the pet sections of papers since we got back up here. As I am looking I see a add for Schipperke puppies! Since its about 8:30 I decide its too early to call and wait. By about 9:15 I can wait no more. I call up the number and get a voicemail. So I leave them a message and hope that we will hear back from them. About an hour or so later the phone rings and its them. They have 2 little girls left. Yeah! Just what we are looking for. So we talk a little she tells me they are 8 1/2 weeks old, they are purebred but not registered etc. So I ask will you be around this afternoon so I can come get one? She says yes, gives me her address and we go on with our day. It was a long day, it was great seeing everyone but I just really wanted to go get our little baby girl. We got to their house at about 4:30 and their two Schipperke's are outside running around. They looked good and healthy and happy. We waited outside the gate and as I was going to get my phone to call them they came out. We went in and started playing with the babies. We decided on the one that appeared to be the smaller and more laid back of the two. She is feisty but she also is a cuddle bug so far. Right now she is all tired out curled up in my lap taking a little nap. We named her Isis.

Our Anniversary

On Saturday, Dan and I celebrated our 6th anniversary. The weather was beautiful! We couldn't have asked for a better day. Dan made us a delicious breakfast. I had french toast and strawberries and he had french toast with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Then Kathie and Ed (our landlords) came up to work on the yard with us. We made some great progress out in the front. There is still a lot more to do though. Kathie put in a few new plants and flowers for us and told us about the existing flowers and plants. They felt really bad once they found out it was our anniversary, but that was what we had planned on doing anyway.

After a afternoon out in the yard we headed downtown for dinner. We decided to go to a place called Etta. Etta's is a seafood restaurant owned by Tom Douglas. He owns 5 or 6 restaurants and also makes Dan's favorite spice rub. Before dinner we went down to Pike's place and headed over to Chez Shea for appetizers. We went there for our anniversary 2 years ago and it was delicious. Saturday we had a Kobe style tartar and escargot. I had never had escargot and didn't care for it too much. I did eat my three pieces though so I feel I gave it a fair chance. After appetizers we headed over to Etta's. The store next door had signs in the window saying "We are having a sale... Like everyone else" Well that was enough to get us in the door. It was a pretty modern home decor store so not really up our alley. But they had some beautiful artwork. After looking around we decided on a painting of a red poppy. We are going to hang it on the wall as you walk in the front door. It will look really nice once we get the door repainted. It will hopefully tie in with the red door. Since we were on our way to dinner we made arrangements to pick it up this week. So I will be headed down later this morning to get it. Dan and I are both really excited to see how it works in the spot we picked out.
We had a nice leisurely dinner. We started with a platter of oysters. We tried out 6 different ones. They we all pretty good. After that we shared a Cesar salad and jumbo prawns. All of which was excellent. For dinner Dan had the Sake Salmon and I had the Crab Cakes. They were the best crab cakes either one of us had had. Mostly all crab and just light and perfectly cooked. It was a great evening spent with the man of my dreams.

Settling back into life in Wa

Well its been two weeks now and we are adjusting back to life in Wa. We have had some really nice days followed by some cold wet days. Currently its raining :( I much prefer the sunny days. We have had a chance to see our friends and family and those were by far the best days. The kids had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa and their cousin Dawson when we first got back up here. Dan and I were able to get most of the house set up in that first couple of days. The kids had to cut their visit short when Grandma got sick but they went back over last week for a couple of days. Dan and I spent that time relaxing and then finishing up some more unpacking. We are about 95% moved in now. We still have a little bit to do but it will have to wait for now.
Dan left this morning, back to The Grand Canyon for the week. He will be back Friday night for the weekend and then heads back out next Monday to North Dakota for about two weeks. It will be nice to have him home for the weekend though. On Saturday we will be celebrating our sixth wedding anniversary. How the time flies by. It doesn't feel like six years already! Tom is going to come pick the kids up on Friday night so we can go out this year. Last year we had a great night in with the kids. This year we are going to go out to a restaurant called Lola's in Seattle. It should be a lot of fun and really good food. Not sure what we are going to be doing for Mother's Day yet. But I suppose I should figure that out. Maybe I will just take the day off and relax since Dan will be gone for the next two weeks afterwards.
I have yet to take any pictures of the new place but I will soon. We are loving the new house. Its just perfect for our family. The kids are doing a really good job cleaning up after themselves as are Dan and I. This is the first time that we have lived this long in a clutter free house! We love it and hope to keep up the good work.
The kids and I went and picked up some bird food and a hummingbird feeder today. So far no birds have come to visit but it has been raining all day. Hayden planted a red bell pepper start this afternoon and Phedora planted a tomato start. They loved playing in the dirt. Its funny because since we have been back they have started bringing in bugs and worms. The little pill bugs are Hayden's favorite and Phedora's favorite is the worms.
Not much else to report on as of now. We are planning on going to story time tomorrow and the Children's Museum sometime this week. Phedora keeps asking to go to the mall so we may go take a walk at the mall sometime as well.
