Summer 2010: Part 5

Summer Concerts
Cyndi Soup
Phedora (in the blue dress), Ayla and Caiden going up to dance.
Hayden being goofy.
Not sure what Miss P is doing.
Time to dance!

Ice Cream Cake.
We have been having yet another HOT summer this year.  Though it seems to be lasting a lot longer than it did last summer.  But lots of sun is always welcome in our family.  A couple weekends ago we decided that we really needed an ice cream cake from Cold Stone.  It was delicious
Dan trying to cut the cake.
Phedora is tired of waiting.
Yep I will just eat it now.
Dan and his little knife.
It wasn't working so...
He got a bigger one!
Forget the knife, lets eat!
Please.
Me too.
Mmmm, he can't wait to dig in.
Neither can she.
Contemplating the first bite.
Thanks Dan perfect timing.
Mmm Mmm Good.
Hayden enjoyed his piece of cake.
Isis is enjoying a lamb shank bone from dinner.
She pretty much devoured this whole bone that night.
There is two little pieces of it left.
Phedora's self portrait of her messy face.
She stayed pretty clean.
So pretty.
Snuggling with my baby girl.
Hayden playing with the camera.
He takes pretty good pictures.

Can I go play?

Working Out With Dad.

Mmm Smoked Ribs.
Last weekend Dan decide to smoke some pork ribs.
As usual they were delicious and messy.

Into the Wild.
Bear Lake/Pinnacle Lake
North Cascades.
Ready to go hiking.
Where the road ends...
Like Father Like Son
The road was washed out as you can see so we had to walk into the trail head.
Along the walk more washed out road.
The breathtaking view.
We would like to camp here.
There was a perfect flat spot for a tent.
We made it to the trail head,
approximately a mile and a half walk from the car.
Starting up the trail.
Dan found this interesting plant.
We are not sure what the berries are.
Though there were lots of huckleberries and salmon berries along the trail to munch on.
Walking down the path to Bear Lake.
Bear Lake is about 1/4 mile in from the trail head.
Its beautiful, isn't it.
More pictures of Bear Lake.
We wanted to have our picnic on the other side of the lake.
So we thought if we started on the Pinnacle Lake trail maybe we would end up on the other side.  We were wrong about this assumption.
A video of the kids going over this bridge that was in need of repair.

A glimpse of the flies we dealt with all the way along the trail there and back.
After hiking for a good hour and a half or more we reached Pinnacle Lake.
OK its not really but that's what Dan told Hayden.
Hayden was beyond bummed, we still had a long ways to go.
We didn't take very many pictures along the trail as it was steep and washed out most of the way up.
We actually thought this was Pinnacle Lake.
But then a couple who passes us on the way was on their way back down and told us we were almost there.  So we stopped here and had our picnic.  If we ever go backpack camping this is one place we will go.
Ready for lunch we were all starving after roughly a 2 mile hike up with an elevation gain of about 1100'.
Isis was hot.
We thought we were escaping the heat by going up here.
It was still in the 80's.

The lake before Pinnacle Lake.
Enjoying lunch.
This would be the perfect place to pitch a tent.
King of the rock.
You can't really see it in this picture but he has both arms raised.
We ave arrived at our destination.
Pinnacle Lake
If you look closely in the upper corner there is a trout.
There is another one too if you blow up the picture to its full size, but its hard to see on this little one.
Absolutely beautiful and worth the strenuous hike to get here.
Dan resting with Isis.
They wanted to go in the lake but it was a bit too deep for my comfort.
Really, Mom, stop taking pictures and let me go in.
Exploring around the lake shore.
Following in her big brothers footsteps.
The Posey's
These last few are shots that Dan captured on our way back down.
We started this adventure into the wilderness at 11:30 when we started out for the trail head.  We arrived back to our car tired and out of water at 4:30.  We ran out of water on our way back down the trail.  We did not know that we would be adding approximately 3 miles to our hike by having to walk into the trail head.  Next time we will be sure and bring more water than we think we will need.  Of all our hikes this summer this was by far the hardest.  I do not recommend this hike with small children.  If I had know what we were up against we would have left Hayden and Phedora at home.  They are real troopers though and barely complained at all.  We spent Sunday relaxing our sore, tired muscles.

Summer 2010: Part 4

Swimming!
My Aunt Marie and Uncle ken have a great pool in their backyard.  Not too long ago the kids and I headed over for an afternoon in the pool.  My cousin in-law, Jenn brought over her two girls Georgia, who is a couple months older than Phedora and Elenor  to swim with the kids.  I had a great time catching up with my Aunt while the kids all swam.  It was a fabulous afternoon.
Hayden is becoming quite the little fish in the water.
Cannon Ball!
Hayden had a great time doing cannonballs.
While Phedora lazed around the pool with the girls.

Tooth Fairy.
The tooth fairy made her 3rd visit to Phedora.
I can't believe how many teeth this girl has lost and is ready to lose.  She has 2 more loose teeth that are about ready to fall out.
Daddy pulled it out for her.
Her new smile.

Big Four Ice Caves.
Our 3rd hike of the summer was up to the Big Four Ice Caves.
It was another beautiful, hot day here in the Pacific Northwest so we thought we would take a hike up to the Ice Caves to escape the heat.  While it was cooler up there than down here it was still hot!

Some artwork along the way.

More artwork.

Heading out to have our picnic lunch.
The view from where we had our picnic.
Lunchtime.
This blue jay came to have lunch with us.
Getting ready to head up to the Ice Caves.
Our first glimpse of them.
Getting closer.
The roof of the biggest cave.
Climbing on a piece of ice near the cave entrance.
Phedora playing on the ice.
Isis trying to cool off in one of the many little streams.
Dan helping her out.
It was HOT!

I am off to get dressed and go out and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day we are having today.  Our back yard thermometer in the shade is reading a temperature of 90 degrees.  I have more pictures that I will get up hopefully this evening.
